Research and Development

At BSG, we are committed to finding better ways to recycle and reuse scrap tires. As a result, a large part of our growth is rooted in connecting the dots between science and industry. We realize that there are new use cases for the natural properties of scrap tire materials and our goal is to continue to discover higher value ways of repurposing scrap tires for sustainable use in our world. We believe that by finding a better way, we can do our part to help our community and all of humanity live better and fuller lives. Through our public and private partnerships, we ask questions and remain curious about how we can make a transformational impact in which scrap tires are no longer seen as a waste stream, but as a valuable part of a global circular economy.

Aggregates for Civil Engineering

Tire-derived aggregate (TDA) is an extraordinary material that possesses qualities unlike more common aggregates like stone, gravel, and sand. Despite its unique properties and its ASTM standard (ASTM D6270) it is grossly underutilized due to a general lack of education and experience with all but the most innovative civil engineers, planners, design firms, and construction companies. TDA is proven as an excellent lightweight embankment fill, retaining wall backfill, insulating backfill to prevent heat loss, vibration dampening layer, and replacement for stone, soil and rocks in other fill construction. This ASTM standard is designed to encourage wider utilization of scrap tires in civil engineering applications.
